Palombaggia, Santa Giulia & the southern beaches

Lined with umbrella pines and pink granite rocks, Palombaggia and Santa Giulia regularly rank among the most beautiful beaches in France. Just minutes away by car, two more gems are worth the detour: Tamaricciu, known for its single umbrella pine reaching out over the water, and Rondinara, halfway to Bonifacio, whose near-circular shape makes it one of the island's most photographed beaches.

Limestone cliffs of Bonifacio overlooking the sea

Bonifacio, the Lavezzi Islands & Col de Bavella

About a 30-minute drive away, Bonifacio and its citadel perched on limestone cliffs are worth the detour on their own; its harbour is also the departure point for boat trips to the Lavezzi Islands, a protected nature reserve (allow about 1.5 hours each way). Nature lovers have several escapes about an hour's drive away: the Aiguilles de Bavella and the Ospédale forest for hiking, the Cavu natural pools for a freshwater swim carved into the granite rock, and the Coscione plateau, a vast highland pasture accessible to families from Quenza.

Corsican charcuterie, cheese and wine on a rustic wooden table

Local gastronomy

The covered market in Porto-Vecchio is a great spot to discover local producers: Corsican charcuterie (prisuttu, coppa, lonzu, figatellu), brocciu cheese and maquis honey. In summer, the town centre's night market brings together local artisans and producers in a festive atmosphere. For wine, estates of the Corse Porto-Vecchio appellation — planted with vermentinu, niellucciu and sciaccarellu grapes — produce whites, rosés and reds well worth tasting.
